Having a TV lift can be useful for concealing and protecting a TV from unwanted scratches, dust and accidental damage from pets or kids. The TV lift mechanism is also what allows for extra space saving, as essentially hides your TV when no longer needed. In this article, we will be covering the step-by-step instructions to assemble a TV lift – although our motorized TY-05 can come with different stroke length options to better suit certain sized TVs, the overall steps for assembly and operation will still be similar for all TY-05 models.
Let’s get started!
Double Check the Parts
Before you build your own TV lift, we first want to make sure none of the pieces required are missing or lost, by verifying that all the parts are available. Below are the parts that would come with the purchase of every TY-05 TV lift:
Aside from the large sized Track Linear Actuator and 1 x support column, the smaller pieces may be trickier to identify. For these items, they have the same appearances as the physical units seen below:
How to Assemble the TY-05 TV Lift
If constructing a DIY TV lift or our TY-05, having all the necessary parts, tools, and resources are always helpful when assembling any electronic system. After confirming the availability of all the parts, the tools required for assembly are:
- Phillips’s screwdriver
- Hex Key Driver Set and pliers.
We also have our TY-05 installation video linked below as extra reference:
Step One
Use the four M8 x 12 Phillips Countersunk Screws from bag P4 to mount the TV Mounting Brackets to the back of your television. This requires turning the screws clockwise with a Philips screwdriver. Please be aware that the supplied screws may not fit your television, and you should ensure that you have the appropriate TV mounting screws before continuing. Tighten until secure.
Step Two
Use the four M8 x 12 bolts, nuts, and washers from bag P3 to attach TV Support Arms to the Support Column. Either the 30” or 36” TV Support Arm can be used depending on which width suits the installed TV. Tighten until secure by turning in the clockwise direction using 7/32-inch hex key. (Note: the nuts may not be required since they are just spare parts).
Step Three
Use the four M5 x 12 screws, nuts, and washers from bag P2 to attach the Ceiling Cover to the Ceiling Cover Brackets. Tighten with a Philips screwdriver clockwise until secure, you may use pliers to hold the nuts into place while turning the screws as seen below.

Step Four
Use the four M8 x 18 bolts, nuts, and washers from bag P1 to mount the assembled Ceiling Cover to the Support Column. Tighten until secure by turning in the clockwise direction using 7/32-inch hex key. You may use pliers to hold the nuts into place from behind while turning the hex key.

Step Five
Use the Actuator Mount Bracket, Clevis Pin and Cotter Pin from bag P6 to mount the top portion of the Track Linear Actuator to your installation. The bottom portion comes with an attached bracket for installation. The wood screws shown in the final diagram of step 5 are not included. Tighten until secured.

Step Six
For this step, we recommend having at least two people. From bag P5, use the four M6 x 25 bolts and washers for the smaller holes on the outside and the two M10 x 25 bolts and washers for the middle holes to mount the assembled support column to the Track Linear Actuator. Install all the bolts before tightening to ensure proper alignment. The 8mm hex key is used for the 2 x larger bolts while the 3/16-inch hex key would be for the 4 x smaller bolts. Tighten until secure by turning in the clockwise direction using the appropriate hex keys.

Current appearance of the TV lift
Now that your Drop-Down TV Lift is assembled, you can attach your TV Mounting Brackets to the TV Support Arms using the four M8 x 12 screws. Tighten in the clockwise direction until secure.

Step Eight
Your Drop-Down TV Lift is now fully assembled and ready for use.
Step Nine (optional step)
Sometimes, the control box will come with dust covers to protect the inputs from collecting unwanted dust and debris. To remove them, you need to slide the front face plate in the upwards direction as seen below:
Step Nine initially
Then, you can pry out the dust covers using your fingernails or pliers seen below:

Step Ten
The wireless remote is usually all you need to control the TV lift, however, the wiring for wired rocker switch and external limit switch can be seen below in case this was required for your set up.
Control box wired-up
Pairing the wireless remote with your TV lift mechanism is required before use. Simply press and hold the UP and DOWN buttons on the wireless remote while simultaneously pressing the button on the side of the control box for 10 seconds. The TV lift will raise after the remote pairing has been completed.
Step 9 process
Changing Travel Functionality
To change the wireless remotes travel function from Momentary to Non-Momentary, hold the COM button for approximately 10 seconds and then let go.
External Limit Switches in a TV Lift
Please keep in mind this procedure is completely optional and does not need to be set up for the TV Lift to operate. The external limit switch stops the lift from moving once it is pressed. Please note that the external limit switch will only operate in the extending direction. Install the switch in a way that it will be pressed while the lift is moving up and right before the ceiling cover touches the ceiling.
Conclusion
To summarize, TV lifts can help protect a TV from unwanted scratches, dust, and other accidental damages. The assembly and operation of all our TY-05 TV lifts are very similar regardless of which size was selected and are quite feasible to assemble. By using a few tools and spending some time to follow our step-by-step guides, you can be one step closer to having your own DIY TV lift.
